Suisun Bay Ship Graveyard, California

Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet, California

The Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet is visible from Highway 680 near Benicia on the Eastern edge of the Bay area. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's wondered why these ships are parked here. These ships are merchant type ships held in reserve to facilitate the transportation of cargo in emergencies. They are maintained by the Department of Transportation and also used for training. There is a hopefully legible photo below of the informational plaque about the fleet at the vista point off of 680.
