San Andreas California
San Andreas California
San Andreas is an old mining town founded during the 1849 California gold rush. San Andreas has a small but vibrant and well preserved downtown. It has been the seat of Calaveras County since 1866 and as a result has been more economically stable than some of the other towns in the Motherlode region. Also, because it's the county seat, it feels more like a real town and is less dependent on tourism than some other area communities. The central block of Main Street is especially charming, including the weird Quonset hut with the false front pictured below.
