Mount Vernon, Indiana

Mount Vernon has a really interesting and under-used historic central business district. Mount Vernon was incorporated in 1832 and its small (4-5 block ) historic commercial district has many mid to late 19th century buildings - many of them empty. Over all Mount Vernon seemed fairly economically healthy. It is the home of the Port of Indiana and several industrial facilities including a small refinery and a large plastics plant. Downtown Mount Vernon also has a nice little park on the Ohio river.
