J. Neils Lumber Co. Klickitat Washington

Klickitat, a small town in the Klickitat River valley/gorge, grew up around a large lumber mill. The mill, which was owned by J. Neils Lumber Co from 1922 until a merger with the St. Regis Paper Company, operated until 1994. The mill is currently abandoned and in ruins. The extensive mill grounds are fenced and posted and the mill is seemingly inaccessible without a very long hike. Klickitat seems to be doing just fine without the mill. The abandoned Gas-Ice dry ice plant is about 2 miles upstream of Klickitat on the river/highway.
