Winder Georgia

I took these pictures while passing through Winder in 1993. The Winder Rug Mill (pictured) was built shortly after 1898 and had been closed for several years prior to my visit. I don't know when it closed exactly. At the time I visited, Winder was suffering from the loss of this and other sources of employment. In the years since I visited, the sprawl of suburban Atlanta reached Winder. The population of Winder has doubled to 14,099 since 1990 and the areas around the rug mill have been cleaned up considerably. I'm happy to say that the main building of the rug mill is still standing (although slightly modified) and is now occupied by an appliance store.
