Whiting Indiana

Whiting Indiana

Whiting is in the approximate center of a vast industrial area on the south and southeastern edge of the Chicago Metropolitan area. I took these pictures while exploring the area in 1991. Some of these pictures were taken in East Chicago which is next to Whiting. Steel and other heavy industries in the area have been declining for some time but the petrochemical and refining industries are thriving. I've been through the area a few times more recently but have not taken any more recent pictures.
